We sell the materials necessary for you to restore your own piece. We can supply you with the the shaker tape, splint, fiber rush, or the sheet or hand cane for you to make your own repairs or restoration. We will also provide a list of tools that we have found useful, and a complete set of instructions. If you should have any questions or problems during your project, please feel free to give us a call. We can probably "talk you through" it.
STRAND CANE is the material used in traditional hand caning. It is available in the sizes shown in the
CANING section.
Strand cane is sold in a 500 foot bunch. This amount is enough to cane two average chair seats. We include the binder cane, instructions, and a recommended tool list with each order. When you contact us, we will need to know the size of the holes drilled in the frame, as well as the distance from center to center of the holes. These factors determine the correct size of cane for your project.
CANE WEBBING is the material used in press caning. It is available in the Fine 1/2" mesh. An example of this webbing is shown below:
This is NOT a job we recommend for a first-timer. The measurements and the process are particularly exacting.
If you want to try it, we will need to know the dimensions of the seat to be caned, as measured from the outside edge of the front groove to the outside edge of the back groove and the outside edge of one side groove to the outside edge of the other side groove. In addition, we need to know the EXACT width of the groove itself. This is critical, as the spline must fit tightly in order to hold the cane webbing in place. Spline comes in seven sizes, running from 1/8" up to 5/16". An incorrect measurement here will lead to problems later. As always, we will provide instructions and a list of recommended tools.
SHAKER TAPE is available in all of the colors shown in the

Please contact us to determine the amount of tape you need for your item. We can also sell you the foam cushion for your seat and provide you with instructions and a recommended tool list.
We will need to know the size of the seat or back that you intend to shaker tape. Please have the measurements across the widest point of the seat or back, from side to side, and the distance from the front rail to the back rail (for the seat) or the distance from the top rail to the bottom rail (for the back).
SPLINT is available in 5/8” widths. It comes in either a natural or off-white color, or in a smoked or darker brown version. Again, we will need to know the size of the seat or back that you intend to splint. Please have the measurements across the widest point of the seat or back, from side to side, and the distance from the front rail to the back rail. We can also provide you with the instructions on how to do the job.
FIBER RUSH is available in all of the sizes in the
RUSHING section.
It comes in a tan color, similar to the color of a paper grocery bag. While this is not a task we recommend for beginners, it can be done. Please contact us with the size of the seat across the widest point from side to side, and the distance from the front rail to the back rail. We also need to know the width, from side to side, of the back rail. Your order will include instructions and a recommended tool list.
